So why are they called Christmas Morning Waffles? Because if I didn’t make them Christmas morning there would be pure anarchy in my house. Here’s the easy recipe and some variations. Oh yes, and you need a waffle maker so make sure you’ve got that before you get started!
- 2 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 1 tbsp. sugar
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- ½ tsp. salt
- 3 well beaten eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1 tsp. or more of vanilla
- ½ cup butter
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Beat the eggs and milk together until blended and add along with the melted butter to the dry ingredients and beat only until the batter is smooth.
Bake in a waffle maker following manufacturer’s directions.
Follow the recipe for waffles and generously sprinkle semisweet chocolate pieces before closing the waffle baker.
Follow the recipe above, omitting vanilla. When the batter is smooth, blend in ½ cup of shredded cheese.
Main Dish Waffles
Follow the recipe for waffles above omitting the vanilla. Sprinkle 2 tbsp of shredded cooked ham over the batter before closing the waffle baker.
