I can’t fathom drinking instant mix iced tea when the real stuff is so easy to make. I also don’t like non-lemony non-sweet versions – but taste is a very subjective thing. Here’s a recipe for a full powered iced tea with strong fresh lemony flavours. By using ice, you can have it from boiled to cool and refreshing in no time.
This is the way my Mom made it, and this is the way we like it on a hot summer day…like today.
Ingredients to make approximately 10 cups:
4 cups boiled water
4 decaf or caffeinated teabags (Tetley Orange Pekoe is my choice)
1 cup white sugar
Strained juice of two real lemons
6 cups of ice
Boil the 4 cups of water and pour into a teapot where you’ve placed 4 teabags. Let steep for about 10 minutes, but no more than 15 or the tea will become bitter (pretty easy so far)
Pour the tea into a heat-proof beverage container that will hold about 10 cups of liquid. Stir in the lemon juice and white sugar until the sugar has dissolved. Once dissolved, stir in the six cups of ice. If you find this too strong for your taste buds, just add some water. Voila, you’re done so go enjoy summer and stay cool!
By the way, for a few more drink ideas, check out my daughter’s blog: http://www.sparkleandshineon.com/2013/07/summer-cocktails.html. Her blog is about fashion, lifestyles and other things that interest her. We share a love of cooking so you might also want to see what she can whip up in the kitchen. Just a thought…
