A short while ago I posted a recipe called Double Chocolate Yummo Cookies. Well friends, I took it to a whole ‘nother level when I got out a hammer – yes, a hammer – and smashed up some peppermint candy canes to add to the top of these cookies.
What happened in the oven was a masterpiece. Where there were bigger hunks of candy cane, there was more crunch, and where there was candy-cane powder, the mint flavour married more with the cocoa and chocolate chip duo. It is pretty amazing, looks festive and gets out your aggression! There’s nothing like cooking with a hammer to get your kids’ attention too!
All I did differently from the Double Chocolate Yummo Cookie recipe was to chill the dough overnight (though two hours would probably be fine), roll it into balls and dip one side into the crushed candy cane. I baked them for the same amount of time – 8 minutes or so at 350.
Another variation you could do is make the plain Yummo cookie, ice with a thin layer of white butter frosting, and sprinkle crushed candy cane on top. In any case, chocolate, chocolate chips and candy canes make for a pretty sweet cookie that would be great to give as a gift.
